Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Aggies fall to No. 4 Maryland

Sophomore Carli Colyer notched her first goal of the season, while freshman Catherine Potente earned her first career point with the assist.

DAVIS, Calif. — Sophomore forward Carli Colyer notched her first goal of the 2018 season and put the Aggies on the board with just eight seconds remaining in regulation, but the No. 4 Terrapins' five-goal lead would prove too much to overcome, resulting in a 6-1 victory for Maryland over UC Davis during Monday's neutral-site match held at Underhill Field in Berkeley, Calif.

The Aggies fell to 2-1 on the season and are slated to return home on Saturday (Sept. 1) to take on Miami (Ohio) at 12 PM at the Aggie Field Hockey Facility. The Terrapins improved to 3-0 and will look to face Boston College in their next match on Aug. 31.

The Terrapins jumped out to a three-goal lead during the first half of Monday's game, scoring in the 13th, 17th, and 21st minutes.

But the Maryland offense fell silent for the remainder of the period, as the Aggies held the Terrapins scoreless over the next 29 minutes.

The Aggies threatened with a corner opportunity drawn in the 10th minute and a pair of shots taken in the 26th minute, with freshman Eline van den Bosch forcing a save from the Maryland goalkeeper, but UC Davis could not get on the board.

The second half would see three more goals by the Terrapins, scoring their final goal of the afternoon with 35 seconds remaining.

But the Aggies were up to their old tricks again, finding a way to score off the stick of sophomore Carli Colyer assisted by freshman Catherine Potente, with just eight seconds left to play.

The Aggies are slated to return to the Aggie Field Hockey Facility hosting Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 12 PM. Following Saturday's match, the Aggies will embark on an eight-game road trip from Sept. 6-24, visiting the states of Virginia, Vermont, Ohio, and Indiana.
