HONOLULU, Hawai'i -- Senior center Greta Kohlmoos scored a hat trick for No. 10 UC Davis; however, Big West Conference school and No. 5-ranked Hawai'i came away with the 12-7 victory over the visiting team at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Saturday evening.
After this weekend, the Aggies are 16-8 overall, and 1-1 in Big West Conference play for the 2018 season.
The Rainbow Wahine was the first team to score a goal in the matchup; however, Kohlmoos evened the score 1-1 going into the second quarter with an even strength goal at the 45-second mark.
The Hawai'i powerhouse continued to widen the gap throughout the remainder of the game, but UC Davis still put up a good fight throughout the game. Junior utility Emily Byrne temporarily made the game a two-point difference after scoring the Aggies' second goal at the 30 second mark, but unfortunately, the home team responded with a goal of their own to increase the score's gap to three.
Kohlmoos started off the third quarter by putting up her second goal of the match, but the Rainbow Wahine's Claire Nixon maintained her team's three-point gap with a goal of her own. Just 20 seconds later, after Nixon's goal, sophomore attacker Kathleen Schafle responded with a goal of her own to narrow the score 4-6; however, it was short-lived as the opposing team held onto their three-point lead.
The Aggies and the Rainbow Wahine continued their back and forth action as Chloe Robinson scored the fifth UC Davis goal, but Nixon responded with a goal shortly after.
Nixon officially widened the score gap to five with another goal of her own within the first two minutes of the final quarter before junior utility Annie Kutt found an opportunity to score an even strength goal at the four-minute mark.
The Rainbow Wahine concluded their scoring at 12 after getting in two more goals lead with two more goals, while Kohlmoos rounded out the scoring for the Aggies at seven with her third goal in the match.
The UC Davis women's water polo team returns to action next weekend as they welcome Big West Conference school UC Irvine to campus.
