DAY 2 - COMPLETE RESULTS
OXFORD, Ohio — Senior Solie Laughlin collected a pair of individual wins in her signature events (400 IM, 100 back), which included an NCAA "B" cut time of 4:14.95 in the 400 IM, and helped the winning 200 medley relay team set a new meet record, while freshman Mia Motekaitis scored the Aggies' third event win of the day in the 200 free before touching fourth overall in the "A" final of the 100 back. With the second day of the 25th-annual Miami Invite in the books, the Aggies sit in third as a team with 616.5 points.
Laughlin led all Aggies scoring 42 individual points on the day and secured her first NCAA "B" standard time of the season. The Ventura, Calif. native also scored an event win in the 200 IM during the first day of competition on Thursday (Nov. 29).
UC Davis wrapped up day two of the 25th-annual Miami Invite in third place as a team with 616.5 points, trailing Cincinnati (669.5) and the host Redhawks (905.5).
The Aggies earned crucial points in the first final of the night after the 200 medley relay quartet of Laughlin, Kristin Schumann, Motekaits, and Mia Facey set a new meet record with a winning time of 1:40.79—less than one second shy of the UC Davis program record time of 1:39.89 set by Hilary Hunt, Liliana Alvarez, Hilvy Cheung, and Haley Porter at the 2014 MPSF Championship meet.
Laughlin then secured a second straight win for the Aggies as well as her first NCAA "B" cut time of the season in the 400 IM (4:14.95), eclipsing her prelim time of 4:24.46 by nearly 10 seconds. Sophomore Laura Lampron improved two spots to finish 12th overall with a time of 4:33.65, ahead of fellow sophomore teammate Vanessa Yeung in 13th (4:33.90).
Junior Cora McClelland logged a career-best time of 55.48 in the prelims of the 100 fly en route to a fifth-place finish in the final, while junior teammate Mia Facey (56.22) touched sixth overall and freshman Kyla Leacox finished ninth with a career-best time of 56.64.
In the 200 free Motekaitis tallied the Aggies' third event win of the night thanks to the sixth-fastest time in UC Davis program history (1:48.51), while senior Nina Gonzalez touched fifth overall with a career-best time of 1:51.25.
Schumann logged a podium finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.48 after touching first overall in the prelims. Junior Tori Kaleta posted a career-best time of 1:04.01 to finish fourth in the prelims en route to a seventh-place overall finish, while Leacox touched ninth overall, marking the second "A" final of the night with at least three Aggie representatives.
Laughlin and Motekaitis then scored a combined 38 points for UC Davis in the 100 back. Laughlin took home top honors and set a new meet record with a winning time of 54.19. Motekaitis turned in a season-best time of 55.51—the sixth-fastest time by an Aggie swimmer in program history, while junior Eva Chung touched second in the "B" final and 11th overall on the night.
UC Davis then closed out the night with a podium finish in the 800 free relay (7:31.42) thanks to a season-best time by the quartet of Gonzalez, Olivia Smith, Jamie Pincin, and Motekaitis.
On the boards, freshman Taylor Hornberger finshed second in the consolation final and 10th overall in the three-meter program with a score of 236.80. Sophomore Katie Truong improved six spots to finish 11th overall, and freshman Londen Christensen jumped seven spots to finish 12th overall.
The third and final day of competition is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Dec. 1) beginning at 10 CST with prelims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, and one-meter diving, followed by finals in those events in addition to the 1650 free and 400 free relay, beginning at 6 p.m. CST.
