Landa wins singles flight at UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  — Freshman managerial economics and philosophy double-major Daniel Landa finished undefeated to win the D Flight singles draw at the 2018 UCSB Classic. Landa defeated LMU's Cartier Juan 6-4, 6-2 to end the tournament on an impressive five match win streak — one that started last weekend on the final day of the Aggie Invitational.

In doubles play, Landa and junior David Goulak defeated Henrique Osorio and Angus Bradshaw (Fresno State) 8-2 to finish in 7th place in the A Flight doubles. Freshman Alex Scemanenco and sophomore Chethan Swanson were slated to play against sophomore teammates Dariush Jalali and Arjith Jayaraman, but switched match-ups with an Oregon team to avoid the all-UC Davis battle. Scemanenco and Swanson beat Alex Stater and Roman Shenkiryk (Cal Poly) 8-4, while Jalali and Jayaraman fell to Oregon's Riki Oshima and Emmanuel Coste 8-2.

Swanson split the weekend 2-2 in singles, defeating Max Kaiser (LMU) in a hard-fought three setter, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 to finish in 13th place in the B Flight of singles.

In a quick turnaround, the Aggies will head to Seattle to compete in the ITA Northwest Regional, hosted at the University of Washington, Oct. 11-15, 2018. The top two finishers of the ITA Regionals qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz.
