Motekaitis, Hornberger shine vs. Wolf Pack

The Aggies resume action at Schaal Aquatics Center next Friday (Nov. 2) hosting CSU East Bay at 4:30 p.m.

COMPLETE RESULTS

DAVIS, Calif.
— Freshman environmental science and management major Mia Motekaitis took home top honors in the 500 free to go along with a second-place finish in the 1000 free, while freshman psychology major Taylor Hornberger posted the third-best 1-meter score by an Aggie diver in program history with an NCAA Zone Qualifying mark of 286.57. But 13 individual event wins by the Wolf Pack would give Nevada its third dual victory of the season with a 187-113 win over the Aggies on Friday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center.

The Aggies fell to a 2-3 dual record on the season, while the Wolf Pack improved to 3-0.

UC Davis began the day with second-place finishes in the first four events of the afternoon, which included a season-best time by Motekaitis in the 1000 free (10:21.61) and a career-best time in the 200 free by junior Olivia Smith

Two events later, junior Cora McClelland touched second overall in the 100 fly (57.67) ahead of freshman teammate Amanda Wilson in third (58.06), Mia Leisten in fourth (58.85), and Renata Saenz in fifth (1:00.04).

Redshirt junior Mia Facey then posted back-to-back podium finishes in the 50 free and 100 free, touching third overall with a season-best time of 52.88 in the latter.

Motekaitis secured the Aggies' only event win in the eleventh event of the day, pacing the field with a winning time of 5:00.48 in the 500 free. The win marks her second of the season after taking home top honors in a triple dual with UC San Diego, Boise State, and San Diego State on Oct. 19 with a time of 4:54.99.

UC Davis then capped off the day with a second-place finish by the relay quartet of Mia Cunnan, Motekaitis, Smith, and Facey touching with a time of 1:36.57 in the 200 free relay.

Hornberger led the Aggies on the low boards, logging her first career NCAA Zone Qualifying score of 286.57 to finish third on the afternoon ahead of fellow freshman Londen Christensen in fourth with a score of 239.10. Sophomore Katie Truong paced UC Davis in the 3-meter program, recording a season-best score of 257.08 to finish third overall.

The Aggies resume action at Schaal Aquatics Center next Friday (Nov. 2) hosting CSU East Bay at 4:30 p.m.
