LA JOLLA, Calif. — Freshman
Mia Motekaitis took home top honors in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.99— the eighth-fastest time in program history—in her Aggie debut, while fellow freshman
Amanda Wilson's third-place finish in the 200 fly (2:04.16) was enough to rank her 10th in the all-time record books as the Aggies cruised to a 165-134 victory over Mountain Pacific Sports Federation colleague UC San Diego during Friday afternoon's triple-dual contest at Canyonview Aquatics Center in La Jolla, Calif.
Junior
Olivia Smith finished third overall in the 1000 free with a time of 10:25.63. Motekaitis also posted a top-five finish in the 200 free (1:51.75), while sophomore
Katie Truong led the Aggies on the boards with a third-place finish in the 3-meter program. Seniors
Kristin Schumann and
Eva Chung touched fifth overall in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.74) and 200 IM (2:06.29), respectively, and junior
Cora McClelland turned in a fifth-place finish in the 100 fly (57.23).Â
The Aggies are 1-2 in dual competition with a 1-0 MPSF mark. The host Tritons fell to 0-3 on the season with an 0-1 league record, while Boise State posted a pair of dual wins, and San Diego State capped off the day undefeated.Â
The Aggies got off to a strong start on Friday afternoon posting back-to-back podium finishes in the first two events of the day with the 200 medley relay quartet of
Solie Laughlin, Schumann, Motekaitis, and
Mia Facey touching third overall (1:45.66) followed by Smith's third-place finish in the 1000 free (10:25.63).Â
Four events later, Wilson secured a third-place finish in the 200 fly with the 10th fastest time by an Aggie in program history, and was closely followed by senior
Nina Gonzalez who touched fifth on the day with a time of 2:06.19.Â
Sophomore
Katie Truong led the Aggies on the boards, finishing fifth in the 1-meter program with a score of 240.60 and third in the 3-meter program with a score of 256.60. Freshman
Londen Christensen made her Aggie debut with a pair of eighth-place finishes on the afternoon.Â
UC Davis then ended the day just as strong as it began with the 200 free relay team of Facey, Wilson,
Mia Cunnan, and Motekaitis securing a third-place finish with a time of 1:35.38.Â
Friday's contest marked the official debut for newcomers London Christensen,
Mia Motekaitis,
Renata Saenz, and
Amanda Wilson as well as the first appearance by redshirt junior
Mia Facey, who returns to the pool after suffering a season-ending injury last season.Â
UC Davis resumes action tomorrow (Oct. 20) against MPSF rival San Diego beginning at 11 a.m.
