BERKELEY, Calif. — Redshirt sophomore Sara Janetzky logged her first career defensive save, while redshirt senior back Kelley Kramer registered a shot on goal in the second half, but a goal in the 53rd minute stood up for host California on Friday night as the Golden Bears edged visiting UC Davis, 1-0, at Underhill Field in Berkley, Calif.
The Aggies fell to 10-6 on the season and 0-4 in America East Conference play heading into their final road match of the season on Sunday (Oct. 21) against Pacific at 2 p.m. The Golden Bears improved to 5-9 overall with an even 2-2 conference mark.
Janetzky kept the California offense at arms length with her first ever defensive save in the 42nd minute, but a corner for the Golden Bears at the 53:39 mark would lead to the only score of the game.
The Aggies threatened just two minutes later with Kramer forcing a save off a corner sequence, but the Aggies could not connect.
The Golden Bears would put one more attempt on frame, but junior goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow remained strong, finishing with four total saves on the night. The performance gives the San Diego native 249 saves on her career—just 20 back of program record holder Lauren Sawvelle (269).
UC Davis elected for a kicking back in the final three-and-a-half minutes of play, but could not make up the deficit.
The Aggies are slated to resume road action on Sunday (Oct. 21) squaring off against Pacific at 2 p.m.
