DAVIS, Calif. - After spending the last two weeks on the road, UC Davis will return home for its next two games, starting with Saturday's league tilt vs. North Dakota. Prior to kickoff, the first 2,000 first-year students who line up outside Aggie Stadium's tunnel, starting at 5 p.m., will participate in the Running of the First Years, an annual football tradition.

QUICK HITS
• Saturday's game against last year's co-Big Sky champion is the Aggies' fourth matchup against a 2016 NCAA postseason opponent this season
• This is UC Davis' second appearance on Eleven Sports this year; the network broadcasted its victory at Portland State two weeks ago
• The Aggies possess the seventh-ranked passing offense in the country, averaging 325.8 yards per game

SERIES HISTORY
• UC Davis leads the all-time series, 4-3, and won three of the four games played in Davis
• These teams split the two previously played Big Sky games, each winning at home

SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
• After suffering consecutive losses at South Dakota (45-7) and at home vs. Montana State (49-21), North Dakota dropped out of the top 25 in the NCAA Coaches and STATS FCS national polls when the latest listings were released earlier this week
• The Fighting Hawks are receiving votes in both polls
• This could mark the last head-to-head meeting for a while since UND is leaving the Big Sky Conference at the end of the 2016-17 season
• North Dakota will play a Big Sky schedule as an independent for the 2018 and `19 seasons, and will not be eligible for the league's FCS automatic postseason bid
• The football team will join the Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2020
• UND's other athletics programs will compete in the Summit League starting next fall, with the exception of its men's hockey program (National Collegiate Hockey Conference)
• Idaho football will replace UND as the Big Sky's 13th team when it returns to the league next season
• Back to North Dakota... the Fighting Hawks are experiencing a situation UC Davis football fans are familiar with (especially during the preceding seasons): injuries wreaking havoc with the team's roster
• Junior defensive back Deion Harris and redshirt freshman defensive back Andre Randolph are out for the season
• Senior wide receiver Josh Seibel, junior wide receiver Luke Stanley, junior offensive lineman Demon Taylor and sophomore linebacker Donnell Rodger are expected to miss this weekend's game
• Another six are questionable: senior offensive lineman Mat Cox, senior fullback Kyle Norberg, senior defensive back Cole Reyes, junior offensive lineman A.J. Stockwell, sophomore cornerback Evan Holm and redshirt freshman linebacker Cam Hunt
• UND's loss to Montana State ended an 11-game win streak against Big Sky opponents and a seven-game home win streak
• North Dakota ended the 2016 season as Big Sky co-champions (alongside Eastern Washington, the Aggies' next opponent) after finishing league play with an 8-0 record
• This helped the Fighting Hawks earn their first Division I postseason berth and a No. 7 national seed in the FCS Playoffs

FOOTBALL UNITES US ALL
• On Sept. 26, UC Davis football visited the International Center to distribute 2017 schedule posters, translated to Arabic, German, Indonesian, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish, to the school's international scholars
• In addition to distributing multilingual schedule posters, student-athletes also took the time to explain the sport of football to their new peers through drills, activities, one-on-one and group conversations
• Head Coach Dan Hawkins -- who coached teams in 13 different countries before returning to his alma mater -- his program, UC Davis Global Affairs and Services for International Students and Scholars organized this event

UC DAVIS' IRONMAN
• When the Aggies take the field against San Diego this weekend, Fred Arp will witness, in person, his 448th UC Davis consecutive football game
• Arp was an assistant coach with the Aggies for more than 40 years before retiring at the end of the 2007 season
• His accomplishments as defensive line coach, and his reverence from the players he mentored, led to his enshrinement in the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010

NO EASY WEEKENDS THIS SEASON
• UC Davis' first victory of the year, earned at home vs. San Diego, took place against the second of six 2016 postseason opponents on the Aggies' schedule this year

UC DAVIS KEEPS ITS EYE ON THE BALL

• UC Davis sophomore quarterback is not only one of the Big Sky's best quarterbacks, but one of the nation's as well since he holds top-10 stats in three individual NCAA FCS categories
• Maier is ranked No. 7 in Passing Yards per Game (317.5), No. 6 in Total Passing Yards (1,270) and No. 9 in Total Offense (315.5 ypg)

PART OF UC DAVIS' DYNAMIC DUO
• Maier is not the only Aggie who holds some of the best numbers in the nation since junior wide receiver Keelan Doss also holds top-10 individual marks
• Doss' 115.8 receiving yards per game average is the sixth-highest in the nation
• Majoring in organization studies, he is the only Big Sky wide receiver ranked within the top 10 in total receiving yards; Doss' 463 yards is the fifth-highest in the country

THE "D" IN UC DAVIS STANDS FOR DEFENSE
• Thanks to the Aggies' special teams play, three players are ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the nation in their respective categories
• Senior linebacker Ryan Bua has two fumble recoveries to his credit this season (the first of his career), and is ranked No. 1 among all FCS players
• When UC Davis visited Portland State on Sept. 16, senior defensive back Darryl Graham returned a punt for a touchdown; that play is the reason why he is No. 1 in the nation in Punt Return TDs
• By blocking two punts in that same game against the Vikings, junior defensive back Ryan Parenteau is ranked No. 2 nationally in this category

• Based on this year's preseason polls, the Aggies have one of the most difficult schedules, among all Big Sky schools, this season

BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO
• However, it comes very easy for junior defensive back Vincent White
• White is responsible for half of the Aggies' 10 pass breakups
• UC Davis' game at Portland State (9/16) is when White made a name for himself by recording four PBUs -- the first of his career

PASSING FANCY
• In his second game as an Aggie, Jake Maier threw for 369 yards against (RV/RV) San Diego, the third-highest total recorded in the program's Big Sky era, and the
second-highest vs. Division I opponents
• Maier did not wait long to record another 300-plus yard effort since he threw for 316 the very next week at (RV/RV) Portland State
• The following week, the economics major became the first Aggie QB in the program's Big Sky era to throw for 300 yards in three consecutive games
• Of the 11 300-yard games earned by Aggie quarterbacks since UC Davis became a Big Sky program in 2012, Maier is responsible for four

HE'S KEEPING IT 100
• One week after his 181-yard effort at San Diego State (9/2) in UC Davis' season opener, junior wide receiver Keelan Doss recorded another 100-yard game vs. San Diego
• That home opener vs. the Toreros marked the fifth 100-yard game of his career
• In that game against San Diego, Doss posted a 75-yard touchdown haul -- the longest of his career and longest recorded by an Aggie since the program joined the Big Sky in 2012
• Doss posted the third 100-yard game of the season when he finished with 116 yards, on 11 receptions, at Weber State (9/23)

LEADER OF THE PACK... ALMOST
• For the second year in a row, Doss has three 100-yard games to his credit in a single season
• The organizational studies major is one of three players to accomplish this feat throughout the program's Big Sky era
• The other two are Chris Martin (2015) and Ramon Vargas (2014)

BETTER BUY AN ERASER, JUST IN CASE
• The single-season record for receiving yards is 1,365, set in 2011 by Michael Oliva
• Charley Enos recorded 100 receiving yards or more in eight games throughout the 2000 season, and has the program record for most career 100-yard games at 14
• J.T. O'Sullivan threw for 3,826 yards throughout the 2001 season
• O'Sullivan threw for 300 or more yards in seven straight games during the 2000 season
• Greg Denham threw for 300 or more yards in five straight games in 2008

IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG TWO-PLUS YEARS FOR AGGIE OPPONENTS
• An All-Big Sky honoree last year as a redshirt freshman, sophomore Nas Anesi leads UC Davis' defense with 24 total tackles
• In addition to his team-high 14 assisted tackles, Anesi is one of five Aggies with double-digit solo tackles
• The other four are Keleen Culberson (team-high 15 solo), Vincent White (14), Ryan Parenteau (13) and Ryan Bua (12)
