April 24, 2017 RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Freshman Christine Danielsson and sophomore Samantha Hutchison each moved into the individual top 10 to lead UC Davis on the second day of the Big West Conference women's golf championship tournament, hosted by UC Riverside at the Oak Quarry Golf Club Monday. The Aggies also moved up one spot into second place in the team standings with a 36-hole total of 597.
Danielsson fired a season-low 72 to move into a tie for fifth place, highest on the team. She shot 3-under-par 32 on the front nine to begin her Monday round. Hutchison, whose season-best was a 70 at the Meadow Club Intercollegiate in early March, fired a team low round of 1-under 71. She drained birdies on the second, 14th and 17th holes to bring her two-round total to 148, good for a tie for 10th overall. Senior
Paige Lee, who had UC Davis' low round on Sunday, shot a 79 to move into a tie for 14th overall at 150 total strokes. Freshman
Yoonhee Kim carded a 6-over 78 to hold 28th place outright. Yet another freshman,
Rei Nakatani, rounds out the Aggie lineup in 33rd place. She shot an 84 on Monday for a 36-hole total of 158. Cal Poly leads the field at 11-over 587, 10 strokes in front of UC Davis and 12 ahead of the tournament hosts. Cal State Fullerton's Martina Edberg, ranked 17th nationally, took over the lead for individual medalist with a 4-under 68 on Monday. She sits at 5-under 139 heading into the final round, four strokes ahead of UCR's Jakeishya Le. The eight-team Big West tournament, held at the par-72, 6,150-yard Oak Quarry course, concludes with a final around Tuesday. UC Davis won six straight team championships from 2010 through 2015.
