HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. - Madison Wood and Samantha Hutchison recorded UC Davis' lowest individual rounds on Monday by recording 71s during the first and second round, respectively, during the first day of action at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. After the opening 36 holes, Hutchison is tied for 22nd at 3-over, Wood is tied for 40th at 6-over, and the Aggies sit in 13th place in a field that features eight nationally ranked teams.
UC Davis will return to the Northmoor Country Club on Tuesday, and start its final 18-hole round at 8:24 a.m. PT/6:24 a.m. CT when Rei Nakatani opens play for the Aggies -- a team that will compete alongside Oregon and Tulane throughout their final day in Highland Park.
By shooting even par throughout the back-half of a 36-hole day, Hutchison climbed nine spots up the leaderboard throughout the second round to lead the Aggies' contingent. With birdies on her second, and second-to-last hole played during Round 1, Wood's consistent performance helped her finish at even par midway through Monday's action.
Thanks to second-round birdies on two of her final three holes, Christine Danielsson ended her afternoon tied for 51st with a plus-8 score, and remains within striking distance of a top-25 finish.
Yoonhee Kim and Nakatani shot 14-over and 19-over to round out the Aggie field.
Led by Arizona State's Linnea Strom at 6-under, only 13 players carded scores that were even or under par. Her effort is why the Sun Devils sit in second place at even par, eight shots behind an Oklahoma State squad that shot a blistering 8-under on Monday, which included a 6-under second-round team score.
