Reed's eight kills helped hold the Racers to just a .118 average while UC Davis hit a respectable .200 in the frame.
The Aggies never trailed in the second-set win, although they did have their 5-2 start wither to ties of 9-9 and 10-10. Emily Allen converted a side out for a kill then delivered a solo stuff against Olivia Chatman to boost UC Davis to a 12-10 edge, igniting a 5-1 overall run. MSU came back to within two points on a pair of Rachel Giustino kills but never approached any closer. Karsseboom, Donald and true freshman Jackie Graves scored kills down the stretch. The Aggies went to the break with a 2-0 match lead.
Despite seven digs each from Reed and sophomore setter Maddie Merlino, the Racers stormed to 17 kills in their third-set victory to hold off the sweep. Allen led UC Davis offensively with five kills but the Aggies slipped to just .089 hitting. Both teams matched up evenly early on before Scottie Ingram put down two of her six Set 3 kills to boost MSU from an 8-8 tie to a 14-8 advantage. Allen had two kills and Ohiri teamed up on two blocks down the stretch but UC Davis could not reduce the deficit by fewer than five.
As in the third, each team battled to an early 8-8 tie in the fourth.
