NORWALK, Calif. - The UC Davis women's track and field team picked up two season-best marks on Friday while the men also had two, as both teams went up against some of the nation's top collegiate and open athletes at the Mt. SAC Relays at Cerritos College.

Two of the Aggies' marks came in the distance events where Trevor Halsted and Christine Hoffman ran strong during their 5,000-meter races. Halsted, who is already second all-time at UC Davis in the event, went 14:07.50 during the invitational heat, a 32-second improvement over his previous season-best of 14:39.77 from the Aggie Open.

Hoffmann was 13th in the college/open division of the 5K, crossing in 16:48.72, beating her mark of 17:06.09 from the Aggie Open. Rochelle Nadreau had the other season-best time for the women with her 20th-place finish of 2:11.95 in the 800. That was an improvement over her 2:13.06 time from the Mondo Team Challenge two weeks ago. Rianna Goins placed 16th at Mt. SAC, just ahead of Nadreau.

The UC Davis men's other season-best mark came from senior Matthew Bender in the discus. Bender, who is third all-time (176-1) in the event, was fifth at Mt. SAC with a mark of 170-0. That surpassed the 166-08 he went at the Stanford Invitational on Apr. 1.

UC Davis had 25 entries at Mt. SAC, which is annually one of the top meets in the country featuring thousands of collegiate, open and high school competitors.

Emma Redick (400 hurdles) and Erinn Beattie (high jump) each finished fifth while Ariel Maroon (pole vault) tied for sixth. Besides, Bender's fifth-place finish, other top-10 placings for the men came from Kyle Clancy (high jump), who tied for seventh, and the fifth-place 4x400 relay.

UC Davis stays in Southern California for the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State on Saturday. The remainder of the squad will host the Woody Wilson Classic on campus during Picnic Day activities. Field events start at 9 a.m. while events on the track start at noon.
