Feb. 9, 2016 DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior Stephanie Stamates picked up her conference-record sixth Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Specialist of the Week award while sophomore Alexis Brown was tabbed as the overall Gymnast of the Week, as the league office handed out its weekly honors on Tuesday.
This marks the fourth straight week that the Aggies have claimed at least one weekly MPSF award and the third consecutive that they have taken two.
Furthermore, this is Brown's first Gymnast of the Week award in her young career. The Huntington Beach High School and Team OC alumna won MPSF Newcomer of the Week three times in 2015. Brown was a triple-event winner in Friday's home dual win over San Jose State. She tied for the meet title on vault with a 9.825, then won both uneven bars (9.900) and balance beam (9.825) outright. Her bars score makes her just the seventh Aggie in program history to reach the 9.9 plateau.
Stamates, originally from California Gymnastics Academy and San Ramon Valley High, finished second to Brown on balance beam with a 9.800 then won the individual floor exercise with a 9.850. Her floor performance helped UC Davis tie its season high of 48.975 in the event, plus it clinched the team's overall dual victory over the Spartans. Stamates won Specialist of the Week on February 2, plus twice in each of her sophomore and junior seasons.
Sacramento State's Courteney Ng garnered MPSF Newcomer of the Week accolades.
UC Davis returns to action at Seattle Pacific on Friday night.
