THIS WEEK
Sunday, Feb. 28 - ALASKA ANCHORAGE, 1 p.m.

LAST WEEK
Friday, Feb. 19 - at Southern Utah w/ No. 3 (3rd, 194.025)

NOTES
TO RECAP: UC Davis broke the 194-point barrier for the fourth time this season and the second time in a road meet, this time in Friday's 194.025 at Southern Utah... Junior Katy Nogaki tied for the individual win with a 9.875 on beam, her second straight meet at such score... Senior Stephanie Stamates became the first Aggie to hit 9.900 in an event, good for a tie for second in Friday's triangular... Stamates has scored 9.900 or better five times in her career: once as a freshman, twice as a sophomore, last year's school record-tying 9.950 vs. Washington, then Friday's meet at Centrum Arena... The school record for 9.90-plus scores belongs to Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Famer Tiffany Chan, who did it 12 times (once on beam, 11 times on floor) from 2002-05... Stamates also went 9.825 on beam, giving her nine scores of 9.800 or better in 2016... Her career total of 47 puts her two behind Ericka Ruelas' unofficial Aggie benchmark of 49.

Friday's meet was also the first in which UC Davis scored at least 48 points in all four events since the road meet at BYU back on January 22... Incredibly, it happened under relatively arduous circumstances: third-year Rachel Kreager was injured in her leadoff routine and had to withdrawal from the meet... Thanks to Nogaki's 9.875 and the 9.825 scores from Stamates and sophomore Alexis Brown, the beam squad salvaged a 48.075... The floor team hit 48.725 then the vaulters followed with a solid 48.575... Kreager's absence on bars mean sophomore Jordan Helgesen was summoned as a pinch hitter: she hit a 9.600 while junior Yonni Michovska led the squad with a season-high 9.800... The bars team went 48.650 for a road season best.

RANKINGS: UC Davis dropped a spot to No. 45 (193.705) in the national rankings, now sorted by regional-qualifying score... Sacramento State, which set a school record in its meet last weekend, holds the No. 36 slot at 194.440... Stamates and sophomore Alexis Brown rank 12th and T13th in the West Region on beam, respectively, with RQSs of 9.815 and 9.810... Brown also ranks third in the MPSF on bars at 9.745... Nogaki also rates in the West's top 20 vaulters, matching UCLA's JaNay Honest with a 9.790 RQS.

UP NEXT: UC Davis (4-9) returns home to host fellow MPSFer Alaska Anchorage for a Sunday afternoon dual... The meet features three special guests... The Kalb family, whose daughter Alyssa was "adopted" by the team as part of the Friends of Jaclyn program, will be in attendance... She became part of Aggie gymnastics back in February 2014 (www.ucdavisaggies.com/sports/w-gym/spec-rel/020614aaa.html)... The meet is also designated as Alumnae Night, this time honoring the two NCAA Regional qualifier teams (1998, 2014) and six MPSF championship teams (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015)... A new championship banner will go up next to men's basketball's Big West/NIT banner, presented earlier this year... Finally, Richard Engel, the executive director of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, has agreed to perform a exhibition rhythmic gymnastics routine â€" in costume, no less â€" if enough members of the Development and Alumni Relations (a.k.a. DEVAR) office attend the meet.

As always, live results are available via StatBroadcast, while video can be found at the team's YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/user/UCDavisGymnastics… Links are found above.

ALASKA ANCHORAGE (0-7) scored a season-best 192.275 in a road dual at Illinois-Chicago, less than 48 hours after going 190.375 in the four-team Navy Pier Invitational on February 12... Senior M'rcy Matsunami posted a 39.050 all-around, thanks to a school-record 9.85 on beam during that weekend... The two-time NCAA regional qualifier and defending MPSF bars champion owns four of the school's top five all-around scores.

HEAD COACH JOHN LAVALLEE:
"Overall, Friday was a very good performance on our part. Southern Utah is a tough place to compete, with a partisan crowd. With Dani [Judal] tweaking her ankle in warmup, we weren't sure if she would go. Then Rachel had her injury as the first person up in the meet. It was a difficult environment, and we had to dig deep. To go the rest of the meet without counting a fall was impressive. The team really handled themselves very well, stayed focus and on track, and put up a good performance."

"Katy Nogaki tying for first in that meet is a huge performance. It was Southern Utah's Senior Night and you had Michigan in the gym. That's huge. Steph's floor routine going 9.9 in that gym was really big. Our bars, with our backs up against it and our first performer having a fall, came back and went 5-for-5. Jordan stepped into Rachel's spot. Her routine wasn't perfect but she fought really hard. That was a clutch performance for us. It was very encouraging."

"Sunday is going to be a great meet. We have our Friends of Jaclyn day, and it's always exciting to have the Kalbs join us. We'll raise our banner and honor eight teams, so we're ecstatic about having those team members return. And I'm hoping the DEVAR unit hits their numbers because I certainly want to see Mr. Engel do his rhythmic gymnastics routine in a Bossy Cow Cow suit. We're looking forward to seeing a lot of folks there."
