CEDAR CITY, Utah - Senior co-captain Stephanie Stamates scored a season-high 9.900 on floor exercise while junior Katy Nogaki matched her personal best of 9.875 to win a share of the individual balance beam title, highlighting UC Davis' third-place 194.025 team total in a women's gymnastics triangular meet at Centrum Arena Friday night.
Host Southern Utah won the meet with a 196.300, upsetting No. 3 Michigan and its second-place 195.750 score.
Stamates anchored the floor squad's 48.725 team total, following a 9.825 performance on balance beam. Nogaki's beam score, which tied the effort that earned her Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Specialist of the Week honors from the Aggies' road dual in Seattle. Nogaki turned around to add a 9.775 on vault, matching sophomore Alexis Brown for the team high.
Nogaki, Stamates and Brown helped UC Davis salvage a 48.075 on beam. The Aggies went short-handed due to an injury to leadoff performer Rachel Kreager and thus competed with just five entrants. Stamates' 9.900, her fifth such score in her career, led a floor rotation that also included a 9.800 from freshman Yasmine Yektaparast and a 9.775 by sophomore Amanda Presswood. Freshman and reigning MPSF Newcomer of the Week Kara Jones chipped in another 9.725 on floor.
Nogaki and Brown led the Aggies to a 48.575 on vault. Senior Dani Judal rebounded from a miss on floor to hit 9.725 on vault for her best score on that apparatus since her season debut on January 29. UC Davis wrapped up its night on uneven bars, with junior Yonni Michovska leading the way with a season-best 9.800. Brown scored a 9.775 to finish her strong three-event night, Judal notched a 9.750 in the fifth slot in the order, while sophomore Miranda Holder turned in a 9.725 performance. Sophomore Jordan Helgesen also enjoyed a return to form, scoring a 9.600 in her return to the lineup.
Friday's meet marks the fourth time UC Davis has surpassed the 194-point barrier in 2016. The Aggies return home on February 28 for a dual with Alaska Anchorage. That meet will also serve as Alumnae Night and Friends of Jaclyn Night. Members of the two NCAA regional qualifying teams and six MPSF champion teams will be honored with the unveiling of a championship banner in the Pavilion.
