MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Junior Kirsten Brand posted the fastest time of the 50-yard freestyle preliminary heats, finished third in the evening final with an NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 22.92 seconds, then anchored a school-record 1:31.68 in the 200-yard freestyle relay to highlight UC Davis' second-day action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's swimming and diving championships at East Los Angeles College Thursday.

Kirsten Brand surpassed the previous mark of 1:32.02, set at the 2013 MPSF meet. Their time, good for third place, also put the Aggies on top of the team race by a 253-236 margin over second-place Hawai'i. UC Santa Barbara sits in third at 219, while Pacific and BYU hold fourth and fifth places with respective totals of 174 and 161.
Brand becomes just the third Aggie in program history to eclipse the 23-second barrier in the 50 free, joining Kayleigh Foley (22.58) and Ashley Chandler (22.74), each of whom did so at the 2011 MPSF meet. She went 22.97 in the prelim to lead all swimmers, then trimmed another five hundredths to establish a personal record. Brand was one of two UC Davis swimmers to reach the championship final: Rojo clocked in a career best 23.53 for eighth place in the final. Rojo now ranks 10th in school history in that event.
The Aggies enjoyed their largest scoring push from the diving competition, which took place about 10 miles north at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena. Senior Lucy Lafrancise led an UC Davis foursome in Thursday's finals in the 1-meter diving competition. Her fourth-place 285.75 in the finals program fell just shy of her own school record of 291.30, set against Loyola Marymount back in October. Audrey DeNeffe (243.45), Serena Yee (239.55) and Jessica Fernandez (227.60) grabbed the sixth through eighth slots, while Angelina Proshak (244.25) and Shaifali Goyal (241.90) took the top two places in the consols, helping the Aggies amass 66 total team points on the low board.
UC Davis piled up another 37 points from the 200 IM, thanks to three swimmers in the championship final and another in the consolation final. Freshman Mia Facey went 2:01.97 in the morning and 2:02.75 in the evening to finish sixth overall, while juniors Elise Roberts (2:03.07) and Cheung (2:03.70) nabbed the seventh and eighth places. Facey's prelim time is just the fifth in school history faster than 2:02, and the fastest since Cheung went 2:01.75 at the 2014 MPSF Championships.
Senior Lexy Troup kicked off the evening session with her season-best and fourth-place 4:53.51 in the 500 freestyle, good for another 15 points in the team scoring.
The MPSF Championships resume at 10 a.m. on Friday with the 400 individual medley, and will continue through Saturday night' 400 free relay.
