DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis erased a nine-point halftime deficit in Saturday's Big West Conference matchup at the Pavilion, and tied the game twice in the second half before Long Beach State pulled away with less than a minute remaining in regulation to defeat the Aggies, 57-48.

UC Davis falls to 10-14 overall and 5-6 in league play while Long Beach improves to 14-12 and 8-3.

Josh Fox sank half of his 12 shots, and hit all eight of his attempts at the free throw line and finished with a team-high 20 points - the fourth time in his career where he recorded 20 points or more in a game.

For the third time in the last four games, ninth time this season and 10th occasion in his career, Neal Monson posted a double-digit rebound total by ending his evening with a team-high 10.

The junior center has recorded a collective 43 boards in the Aggies' last four games.

By scoring five points, Siler Schneider is now three shy of setting a new true freshman, single-season scoring record. The freshman guard will enter UC Davis next game, at Cal Poly, with 234 points - two shy of the total Josh Ritchart recorded during his first season as an Aggie.

UC Davis held Long Beach State to 25 first half points - the second-lowest total in any half played by the 49ers this season - .357 shooting overall and .136 from three. However, the Aggies committed 21 turnovers, which led to 17 points for Long Beach State and, ultimately, became the difference in the game.

"The effort was there throughout the entire game, everyone worked hard and gave it their all. After halftime, we made some plays, battled back and erased our deficit," said head coach Jim Les.

'We just turned the ball over too many times and (Long Beach) was able to take advantage of that. Give them credit because the 49ers are athletic team."

Gabe Levin lead LBSU with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Nick Faust chipped in another 12 to help Long Beach leave the Pavilion with the win.

UC Davis opened the second half by scoring eight unanswered points to pull within one and force Long Beach State to call a timeout.

Throughout the following six minutes, the 49ers slowly pushed that one-point lead to a more comfortable seven-point margin, but that was before UC Davis responded by scoring another seven straight to pull even at 37 apiece.

As the game progressed, the teams traded baskets and remained within two possessions of one another until the final minutes of regulation.

Down by six with 4:14 remaining, a layup from Neal Monson brought the Aggies back within four at 51-47. But a layup from Levin, and a dunk from Faust doubled the 49ers' lead with less than a minute remaining.

UC Davis will head to the Central Coast next week to face Cal Poly on Thursday, and UC Santa Barbara two days later. Tipoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.
