MOSCOW, Idaho - Down by five with 35 seconds remaining in Saturday's non-conference game at Memorial Gym, Darius Graham hit a clutch three to pull the Aggies within two at 65-63. After Idaho hit the back end of a double-bonus situation, Siler Schneider sank both shots at the free throw line to make it a one-point UC Davis deficit with 16 seconds still left on the clock.
The Aggies' defense came up big by forcing the Vandals to commit their 14th turnover of the evening on the following inbounds play, giving themselves the (potential) last possession of a game that ultimately saw three tied scores and 10 lead changes. With the end of regulation just six seconds away, Brynton Lemar was fouled and made the front end of his two free throws to pull UC Davis even at 66 apiece.
After Idaho raced down the court, a mad scramble for the ball took place when numerous Vandals and Aggies fought to gain control of a lob pass that was thrown to the far block. Once Jordan Scott caught that entry pass, he quickly tried to bank a five-foot shot off the glass before the final buzzer sounded. His attempt was released in the nick of time, and that became the deciding shot in a game the Aggies dropped by a 68-66 score.
With that heartbreaking result, UC Davis will enter its week-long final break with a 5-4 record while Idaho improves to 4-3.
"I loved the fight we had with less than a minute to go, to battle back and give ourselves a chance to win the game," said head coach Jim Les. "We did some really good things down the stretch, execution wise, which is a positive. We needed one more play, and didn't come up with it.
"That's a disappointed locker room," Les added. "When you fight back, and don't get the result you wanted, you are going to feel disappointed. We will grow from this, get better and with finals here, hopefully everyone will have a successful week."
The Aggies' next game will take place on Dec. 10 at Cal in a game he Pac-12 Networks will televise beginning at 7:30 p.m.
With his 14-point outburst in the second half, Lemar endeded his night with a game-high 19 points, Schneider hit half of his six shot from three to post 18 points and Graham's late three helped him finish in double figures with 10.
Lawrence White enjoyed a spectacular game on the defensive end of the court; in addition to blocking a surefire breakaway layup, he thwarted a potential Idaho dunk, which would have been another easy two points for the Vandals and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds -- one shy of matching his career high.
Brayon Blake led Idaho with 17 points, while his teammate Victor Sanders fouled out with a team-high six boards.
