ABOUT THE DONS: San Francisco enters the week with a 6-4 overall record, having won its last two over Bay Area rival San Jose State (79-71) at home at Cal Poly (73-67) on the road... The Dons are 2-0 against Big West schools when you include a 73-71 win over Long Beach State on Nov. 20... USF is a perfect 4-0 at home this season, also posting wins over Sacramento State (91-80) and Seattle (73-59) to tip off the year... Senior Rachel Howard leads a balanced Dons effort, pacing the squad in both scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg), while shooting .424 from the floor, .800 from the line, and dishing out 29 assists... Big West fans will recognize Dons' head coach Molly Goodenbour, who is in her first season at the helm after spending four seasons as head coach at UC Irvine (2008-12) before guiding Cal State Dominguez Hills for the last four years.
SERIES NOTES: San Francisco leads the all-time series with UC Davis, 7-5, according to records that date back to the 1978-79 season... The Dons have won the last three straight meetings with the Aggies, but the two haven't met since USF posted a, 73-70, win over UC Davis at The Pavilion on Dec. 2, 2014... The Aggies are just 1-4 against the Dons at War Memorial Gym, posing their lone win in that venue on Nov. 12, 2010, in a 69-45 victory... San Francisco emerged victorious in the last meeting on The Hilltop, posting a 72-65 victory over UC Davis on Nov. 14, 2012... Each of the last three meetings have been decided by single digits.
CONFERENCE CALL: Wednesday's game against the Dons will be the Aggies' fourth against a West Coast Conference opponent this season, with UC Davis looking to remain unbeaten following wins over Portland (66-52), Pacific (95-87), and Saint Mary's (68-66)... The Aggies are 42-51 all time against the WCC and have won their last five against the league dating back to a, 66-53, loss to Pacific in the second game of last season... UC Davis has faced seven of the league's 10 members: Pepperdine (1-3), Portland (2-2), San Francisco (5-7), Pacific (14-13), Saint Mary's (12-12), Santa Clara (8-11), and Gonzaga (0-3).
AGGIES INK THREE TO NLIs: UC Davis women's basketball solidified its front line with a trio of signings during the NCAA's early signing period on Nov. 10, welcoming three high school standouts to the "Aggie Family." Southern California natives Kayla Konrad (Valencia, Calif. / Valencia HS) and Cierra Hall (Cypress, Calif. / Fairmont Prep Academy) join highly-rated Canadian post Sage Stobbart (North Vancouver, British Columbia / Seycove Secondary School) in the Aggies' signing class, who all begin their careers as true freshmen in 2017-18. For more details on the three signees, read the entire release at http://www.ucdavisaggies.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/111016aac.html.
IT'S A START: With seven wins in their first 10 games out of the gate, the Aggies have posted their best 10-game start since the 2011-12 UC Davis squad opened with a similar mark following five straight wins to start the year. It is the fourth time in the program's Division I history that the Aggies have opened a year with at least seven wins in their first 10 games, including an 8-2 record in 2010-11 and a 7-3 mark in 2009-10.
AND THE POINTS JUST KEPT ON COMING: UC Davis' 110 points scored in Sunday's win over Causeway rival Sacramento State set a new single-game scoring standard in the Aggies' Division I Era, surpassing the 102 points scored at San Jose State almost six years ago to the day on Dec. 21, 2010. Sunday's point total for UC Davis stands second only to the 117 points scored at Metro State during the program's Division II days on Nov. 13, 1998, while the 56 points in the first half set the school's Division I record for points in a half, surpassing the 54 scored in the first half against the Spartans.
Top Five All-Time Single-Game Scoring Performances
1. 117 at Metro State, 1998-99
2. 110 at Sacramento State, 2016-17
3. 108 vs. Patten College, 1996-97
4. 107 at Cal State Los Angeles, 1998-99
5. 103 vs. UC Santa Cruz, 1974-75
BESTIES: Scoring 110 points will lead to a number of season bests, and Sunday's win over the Hornets was no exception. Aside from the record number of points, the Aggies posted highs in field goals made (40), attempts (66), percentage (.606), free throws made (25), free throw percentage (.926), rebounds (51), assists (26), blocks (9). The block total was just one short of the school's single-game record set against Humboldt State on Feb. 18, 1995.
LUCKY SEVEN: According to game-by-game records that date back to the 1991-92 season, the seven players in double figures on Sunday against Sacramento State are the most in the single game during that stretch. Six times in that period the Aggies finished with six players with 10-or-more points, the last coming against Stanislaus State on Feb. 18, 2000, in an, 88-75, UC Davis win at home. Sunday's win marked the fifth time this season that the Aggies have finished with at least four players in double figures, winning all five of those contests. In fact, UC Davis has won its last 13 games (including a 7-0 mark last year) when it has four-or-more players finish in double figures dating back to a, 73-70, loss to San Francisco on Dec. 2, 2014.
HIT THE ROAD, JACK: UC Davis carries a 1-1 record into the third game of its season-long six-game road trip on Wednesday in San Francisco -- the Aggies' longest stretch away from home since a similar run from Nov. 29-Dec. 18, 2013. UC Davis, however, is looking for a better results during this season's extended road swing after going just 2-4 during that 2013 trip, which included a contest at top-ranked UConn on Dec. 5.
STRONG AS A BERTSCH: While the oak has long regarded as one of the strongest woods in nature, the Aggies are proving that a "Bertsch" can be just as durable in any conditions. With her 18-point outing against rival Sacramento State, sophomore Morgan Bertsch has finished in double figures in all 10 games for the Aggies this season, and in each of her last 18 games overall dating back to last year, averaging 17.6 ppg (317 overall) and shooting .564 (124-for-220) from the floor in that span.
SWAT TEAM: When it comes to patrolling the paint, not many have done it better than the Aggies' tandem of sophomore Morgan Bertsch and junior Marly Anderson, who have combined for 35 of the team's 46 swats thus far this season. Bertsch leads the way with 21 blocks overall and has tallied at least one block in each of UC Davis' first 10 games -- including a career high-tying four against Saint Mary's (Dec. 11) and Sacramento State (Dec. 18), and six games with two or more -- while Anderson has at least one block in eight of the team's 10 games and is second on the team with 14 overall, including three in wins over Montana State and San Diego State.
RECORD CHASING: Bertsch's career high-tying four blocks at Sacramento State gave the Santa Rosa, Calif., native 57 for her career, ranking her fourth on the school's career list in the Division I Era and moving her into a tie for 10th on the school's all-time list alongside Jessica Campbell (2003-06, 2007-08), just seven back of Kari Sivesind (1992-96) for ninth.
SOPHIA'S SONG: Freshman Sophia Song had herself a coming out party against the Hornets on Sunday, finishing with career highs in nearly every category. Song, who had eight points in six games entering the game, finished with 13 alone on 4-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line, grabbing five rebounds in 16 minutes.
IF THE HSU FITS: Also getting in the scoring column against Sacramento State was freshman Kaitlyn Hsu, who tallied the first points of her Division I career late in the game against the Hornets, nailing a three-pointer in her only shot attempt on Sunday. Hsu was the last Aggie to be left out of the scoring column, going 0-for-5 in her previous four appearances.
ONE FOR YOU... NONE FOR YOU: Sophomore Kourtney Eaton is a giver when it comes to her teammates, but not so much when it comes to the opposition. Eaton has dished out 33 assists against only 14 turnovers in her last eight games and leads the Big West overall (No. 68 in the NCAA) with a 2.17 assist-to-turnover ratio overall this season. Her eight assists against Sacramento State on Sunday marked the 14th time in 41 career games that the Longview, Wash., native has finished with five-or-more assists in a game, including a career-high nine against UC Riverside in the semifinals of last year's Big West Tournament.
SHE CAN DISH IT OUT: With her three assists against Sacramento State, junior Dani Nafekh solidified her hold on second place on the school's Division I list for career assists with 232, ranking behind only Hana Asano (278), and moving her closer to Jessica Campbell (274) for 10th on the all-time chart, needing just 42 more to match the all-time Aggie great. Nafekh is only the fifth player in the program's Division I history to reach 200 assists, joining Asano, Blair Shinoda (223), Alyson Doherty (214), and Celia Marfone (206).
DOUBLE UP: Showcasing a scoring ability not often seen in her first two seasons, Nafekh has reached double figures in nine of the her 10 games this year, missing the 10th by a single point at No. 11 Stanford on Dec. 4. Ranked second on the team in scoring at 13.7 ppg entering Wednesday's game at San Francisco, Nafekh had hit double figures just six times COMBINED in her first two seasons, averaging just 4.8 ppg in that span.
FROM WAAAY DOWNTOWN: When not setting up her teammates, Nafekh has been knocking down shots with regularity, especially from beyond the arc. Helped along by her record-tying night against San Diego State when she drained eight from long distance, Nafekh enters Wednesday's game at San Francisco leading the Big West by shooting .500 from three-point range -- a mark that stands No. 13 in the NATION -- and standing fourth with her 23 makes and 2.3 makes per game.
#PROTECTTHEPAVILION: UC Davis' win over Saint Mary's -- ranked No. 14 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll entering the game -- improved the Aggies to 5-1 within the friendly confines of The Pavilion this season and helped UC Davis to its ninth win in its last 11 on its home floor. Under the direction of Head Coach Jennifer Gross, UC Davis is 42-31 (.575) at home in the last five-plus seasons.
MORE HOME COOKING: With the Aggies not scheduled to return home until a Big West Conference tournament championship game rematch with Hawai'i on Jan. 7, UC Davis will enter league play with its most non-conference home victories since the 2010-11 season when the Aggies finished 5-0 outside of the Big West at The Pavilion. UC Davis is three wins shy of last season's home win total (8-5), and seven back of the Division I Era mark for home wins set in 2010-11 (12-3) with eight home contests remaining this season.
