DAVIS, Calif. - Four home matchups against 2016 NCAA FCS playoff participants plus a season-opening contest at two-time defending Mountain West Conference champion San Diego State highlight UC Davis' 2017 football schedule as announced by department officials Monday afternoon.

Season tickets are now available at tickets.ucdavis.edu. Information on single-game tickets, kickoff times and additional promotions will be available at a later date. The 2017 season will be the first for new head coach Dan Hawkins, the former Aggie fullback who was announced to the helm on November 28. "It's time to start selling out Aggie Stadium and supporting championship football," Hawkins said. "We have four playoff teams coming here, and we have the rivalry game with Cal Poly. We want to get the Horseshoe back. And it will mean a lot to have our Southern Californian fans and alumni come out and support us in San Diego." Of the five home opponents, San Diego (Sept. 9), North Dakota (Sept. 30), Eastern Washington (Oct. 7) and Cal Poly (Oct. 28) each made the FCS playoffs, with second-seeded EWU reaching Saturday's national semifinal game. The fifth home contest -- Nov. 11 against Southern Utah -- means each of the top five teams in the 2016 Big Sky Conference standings appear on the Aggies' slate next fall. San Diego State (Sept. 2) captured its second consecutive MWC title and its 21st overall with a 27-24 win at Wyoming on December 3. The Aztecs soundly defeated Houston, 34-10, in Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl, marking the program's seventh straight bowl game appearance. After the home opener against the Toreros and a non-conference game against Big Sky member Portland State, Big Sky action commences with the road contest at Weber State on September 23. UC Davis also travels to Northern Arizona (Oct. 21) and Idaho State (Nov. 4) for additional Big Sky road action before closing the regular season with the 64th Causeway Classic matchup at Sacramento State on November 18. Overall, the Aggies' road schedule sends them through four other states: Oregon, Utah, Arizona and Idaho. "We get to tour the west, which is great. It's a tour of different locations," said Hawkins. "We are the No. 6 public university in the country, and this is part of our branding and exposure. We have a national brand academically, so we should have a national brand athletically." The October 7 home game against EWU accompanies the eighth-annual UC Davis Brewfest. This year's event featured 60 vendors and more than 100 different beers, ciders, wines and spirits on the Aggie Tailgate Field. October 28's "Battle For The Golden Horseshoe" rivalry game with Cal Poly serves as the cornerstone for the university's annual Homecoming week. The November 11 home tilt with Southern Utah coincides with Veterans Day, thus providing a stage for the annual Salute To Heroes tribute. All home games will feature pregame tailgating on the Aggie Tailgate Field, plus the Kickoff Street Party along La Rue Road. The latter event, launched last fall, offers food and beverages, live entertainment and children's activities for three hours prior to that game's kickoff.
