FARGO, N.D. - Brynton Lemar and Chima Moneke each posted their team-high eight 20-point effort of the season by finishing with 22 and 21 respectively, J.T. Adenrele turned in his best game of the year with 11 points and seven points, both season highs, and UC Davis outrebounded North Dakota State 36-27 in Wednesday night's non-conference game at the Scheels Center in Fargo, N.D.
By making nearly half of their field goals from three throughout the second half (6 of 14) the host Bison erased a seven-point halftime deficit, and held on in the final seconds to edge the Aggies by a 74-70 score.
UC Davis will return to Hamilton Court on Saturday, for the first time in exactly a month, with a 5-6 record while NDSU will continue its season with a 7-4 mark.
Lemar caused most of his damage from three, where a career-high four of his seven baskets took place; Moneke earned a bulk of his points at the free throw line by nailing 11 of 14 attempts.
In addition to setting another season high by earning all three of UC Davis' blocked shots, Adenrele comprised the Aggies' entire bench scoring by connecting on 5 of 7 shots from the floor.
Trailing 16-11 at the 11:12 mark of the first half, the Aggies took a lead that lasted a majority of the game thanks to an 18-4 run that spanned seven minutes.
For the rest of the first half, and a majority of the second half, UC Davis dominated play and controlled the game until a barrage of threes and a three-minute-long 14-2 run gave the Bison the lead with 3:54 remaining,
Even with the NDSU's hot shooting from behind the arc, UC Davis remaining within striking distance and had a chance to send the game into overtime.
Down by two with 19.6 seconds remaining, and 11 ticks left on the shot clock, the Aggies' game-tying attempt was blocked by NDSU's Dexter Werner, and corralled by Khy Kabellis. Now forced to foul to stop the clock, Kabellis hit both shots at the stripe to push his team's lead back to four with 13 seconds remaining.
UC Davis did create two looks from three in the waning seconds, but was unable to cut into its two-possession deficit, which ultimately ended as the game's final score.
With its Division I program record seven-game road swing now over, four of UC Davis' next six games will take place inside the Pavilion, beginning with Saturday's 2 p.m. contest vs. William Jessup.
