Jan. 19, 2016 DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior Katy Nogaki was selected as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics Specialist of the Week for the period ending January 17, the league office announced on Wednesday evening. This is the first such award of 2016 for the Wildfire Gymnastics alumna, and the third in her career.
Nogaki nailed a 9.800 on balance beam and a 9.750 on vault in Friday's home opener with Boise State and Seattle Pacific. The beam score, part of a four-way tie for second place behind Aggie teammate
Stephanie Stamates, helped the team score 49.025 in the event - just the fifth time UC Davis has broken the 49-point threshold on the event in program history. Overall, she helped the Aggies compile a team score of 194.325, their No. 2 all-time home opener.
Sacramento State's Kalliah McCartney captured MPSF Gymnast of the Week honors while fellow Hornet Lauren Schmeiss took down MPSF Newcomer of the Week.
Nogaki previously won Specialist of the Week on February 17 and March 10 during the 2015 season. The Aggies return to action at BYU with Boise State on Friday. Meet time is 6 p.m. Pacific.
