STANFORD, Calif. -- Senior Erika Barr finished 20th overall to lead the women while senior Cody Nguyen was 23rd on the men's side, leading the UC Davis cross country teams to a third- and fifth-place finish at the 42nd annual Stanford Invitational on Saturday morning at the Stanford Golf Course.

The men finished with 173 points to place third among Division I schools behind the host Cardinal (63) and Big West Conference rival Cal Poly (100). On the women's side, the Aggies finished with 187 points to place behind Stanford (44) and the Mustangs (65).

Barr, who ran a collegiate-best 6K time at the UC Riverside Invitational two weeks ago, returned to the course and paced her UC Davis teammates, covering the course in a time of 21:22.6. Running without senior Christine Hoffmann due to illness, the Aggies then packed up behind Barr as Katie Fry (21:56.5), Hannah Kirkegaard (21:57.2), and Rianna Goins (21:57.3), finished within a second on one another in 47th, 48th, and 49th place, respectively.

Junior Clara MacLeod rounded out the UC Davis scoring group, finishing 51st with a time of 22:08.3, and was followed by Nicole Lane (22:32.2) and Katherine Gallaher (22:38.4) in 70th and 81st, respectively, among the field of 256 runners.

The men's squad posted its best finish at the Stanford Invitational since the 2009 squad finished third behind Russ Pfaff's eight-place finish, led by Nguyen, who set a collegiate-best 8K time for the second consecutive week, crossing the line in 24:35.5. The senior shaved nearly seven seconds off his previous mark at the UC Riverside Invitational two weeks ago when he finished with a time of 24:42.4.

Classmate Amar Dholakia also posted a top-30 finish, ending the day 29th with a time of 24:31.1, while senior Trevor Halsted was 40th in a time of 24:39.1. Nick Ratto (24:49.6) in 49th and Austin Goins (24:51.5) in 52nd, rounded out the scoring group for the Aggies, while Patrick Fitzgerald finished in a time of 26:20.2 to close out the day.

UC Davis returns to action next weekend, joining the field at the Sacramento Capital Cross Challenge hosted by Sacramento State at Haggin Oaks Golf Course on Saturday (Oct. 3). The women's 5K race begins at 9:15 a.m., with the men's 8K event starting at 10 a.m.
