Dec. 5, 2015 FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- For the second time in two days, freshman Solie Laughlin qualified for a final swim at the 2015 USA Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals, finishing fourth in the "C" final of the 200m backstroke to wrap-up the Aggies' stay at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Laughlin, who made the "C" Final in the 400m IM on Friday night, duplicated the effort at the longer backstroke distance on Saturday, finishing 21st with a time of 2:16.06 in the prelims, and fourth overall in the final with a time of 2:15.29. When converted to short-course yards, Laughlin's finals time (1:59.72) is her second-fastest of the season in the 200-yard back where she set the school record with a time of 1:57.52 at the Phill Hansel Invitational on Nov. 21, and her third under the two-minute mark.
Junior Hilvy Cheung ended her run at the Winter Nationals with a 37th place finish in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:17.97, while classmate Elise Roberts finished 61st in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:41.71.
Cheung's time converts to a short-course time of 2:01.77 -- her second-fastest time of the year and just .12 off her season-best time of 2:01.65 set at Nevada on Oct. 30 -- while Roberts' short-course time of 2:22.08 is her third-fastest of the season and fifth-fastest overall.
UC Davis now breaks until the beginning of January, resuming the season with a dual against Fresno State on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m., before hosting the Aggie Open on Jan. 9 at 10 a.m.
