IRVINE, Calif. - Junior goalkeeper Jillian Wilding tallied 13 saves while Elsie Fullerton and Keelia Houston each netted goals for No. 16 UC Davis but No. 6 UC Irvine broke loose from a 2-2 tie early in the second half to claim an 8-2 victory in Big West Conference women's water polo action at the Aquatic Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies lose their fourth straight contest, falling to 11-14 for the year and 0-3 in Big West play. The Anteaters improve to 18-6 overall and remain unbeaten in conference at 2-0.
Senior Jessy Cardey and sophomore Emily Carlson tallied goals in the first and second quarters, respectively, to lift UCI to a 2-0 lead at halftime. Houston and Fullerton scored early in the third to equalize at 2-2 but 'Eater sophomore utility Kelsey Thornton netted a pair of goals in a 3-0 finish to the frame.
UC Irvine scored three more goals in the fourth to extend its game-ending run to six unanswered.
UC Davis concludes its weekend road trip with further Big West Conference action at No. 12 Long Beach State. First sprint is slated for noon.
