Nov. 13, 2014 DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis women's basketball head coach Jennifer Gross announced, Wednesday, that Washington natives Karley and Kourtney Eaton have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers with the Aggies beginning with the 2015-16 season.
"We are extremely excited about the addition of Karley and Kourtney to our Aggie program," Gross said. "They have all of the qualities that we look for in our student-athletes here at UC Davis. They are tremendous competitors on the court, extremely driven academically, and most importantly, they are both high-character individuals who are all about the team."
Originally from Longview, Washington, the twin sisters helped lead the Mark Morris HS girl's basketball team to the school's first-ever Washington State championship as sophomores and a runner-up state finish as juniors in 2014. Over the last two seasons, the Monarchs have compiled a 49-5 overall record with the help of the Eaton's, who will enter UC Davis as freshmen with four years of eligibility remaining.
Karley Eaton, a 5-foot-9 wing, averaged a prep career-best 14 points, five rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game for the Monarchs as a junior, earning Greater St. Helen's League Co-MVP honors, All-Area Co-MVP laurels, and a spot on the all-state second team. She also ranks second in school history with a single-game high of seven blocked shots, and 46 blocks overall, last season.
She averaged 13.4 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game, as a sophomore en route to the state title, earning league MVP, second-team all-state, and first-team all-area honors. She was also a first-team all-league and all-area selection as a freshman after averaging 11.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
Kourtney Eaton, a 5-foot-9 point guard, is coming off a junior season when she averaged a prep career-best 15.8 points per game, to go along with four rebounds and 7.8 assists per contest. She shared league MVP honors with her sister, while being named all-area co-MVP, and first-team all-state. She was also a Washington State 2A All-Tournament selection.
During the Monarchs' run to the state title as a sophomore. Kourtney averaged 14.3 ppg and 8.2 apt en route to tournament MVP honors and was also named the Washington State 2A Player of the Year -- the youngest player ever to win the award at any classification . She claimed at least a share of league MVP honors as a freshman and sophomore, while earning all-state honorable mention honors as a freshman after averaging 10.5 ppg and 7.1 apg.
Kourtney currently holds the school career record for assists (603) while setting school single-game marks for points (46 against Battle Ground HS in 2012), three-pointers made (nine, also against Battle Ground HS), and assists (16 against Heritage HS in 2012). Her 105 steals as a junior are also a school single-season record.
"It's hard to talk about one of the Eaton's without talking about the other," Gross said. They are so close off the court and that leads to an amazing on-court chemistry that is truly special. They are versatile, savvy guards who can score in different ways., but the quality that stands out most when watching them play, is their unique passing ability and court vision.
"They both have a gift for finding open teammates, which is something they will be able to showcase in our system. They are tailor-made for our offense and I know our Aggie fans will enjoy watching them over the next four years."
Off the court, both sisters have contributed over 100 hours of community service coaching youth soccer and basketball, while also earning scholar-athlete honors all three years. Karley is currently ranked No. 1 in her class at Mark Morris HS.
