Squyres hit 4-for-4 during the Aggies' 8-4 start to the first set. Quinn hit back-to-back kills to restore that margin to 10-6, then the two veterans helped UC Davis score seven of nine in improving to 22-16. Allie Wegener's line shot scored the 23rd point while Squyres put down two more to close out the set. Overall, UC Davis had 19 kills in that opener, with Squyres finishing at 11-1-15.

Cal Poly answered in the second, with Anna Gorman serving tough to turn a 6-4 deficit to an 8-6 lead. The Mustangs later scored four straight to extend their edge to 16-10 before UC Davis managed to whittle away at the deficit. A near-ace from Lancaster at the service line allowed sophomore Kendall Walbrecht to tool the scrambling Cal Poly block, bringing the lead to just 18-17. However, the Mustangs immediately responded with a Gruenewald roll shot and a Greisen ace to set their edge to three. UC Davis struggled to get into system down the stretch, falling behind to a 24-19 set point on an attacking error and a net violation, then Hannah Schleis ripped a kill from the right pin for the winner.

The third set saw the wildest of swings, as Cal Poly's 6-1 start transformed to an 11-11 tie, which in turn became a 15-12 lead again. Squyres had two kills and Brain posted a solo stuff against Greisen in a 4-0 comeback that had equalized at 11-all before Casey Carroll scored her own solo block and a tool to put the Mustangs back out to the lead. Trailing 17-15 later in the frame, Lancaster served up two aces and Wegener had a kill and solo block to flip the match to a 21-17 Aggie lead. Quinn helped complete the 10-2 finish by joining forces with Wegener for a block at 23-18, then delivering the winner on a slide two points later.

The script largely repeated itself in the fourth as UC Davis had to dig itself out of an early hole. Facing a 7-3 Cal Poly start, the Aggies claimed eight unanswered in taking an 11-7 lead. Walbrecht scored a kill and a solo block while Lancaster's ace highlighted an effective serving reign. The Mustangs answered with four straight to tie the game at 11-11, only to suffer three attacking errors to fall behind by a 16-12 margin. UC Davis kept up the pressure the rest of the way, with Wegener scoring two kills, an ace and a block assist down the stretch.

The Aggies hit a season-high .320 for the match, including a blistering .469 in that first-set victory. The Mustangs pounded out averages of .323 and .478 in the first two sets before slipping to below .100 in each of the third and fourth frames.

UC Davis returns to action at UC Riverside on Saturday before beginning a four-match homestand on November 13.
