Final Results
MORAGA, Calif. - Consolation singles victories, two upsets over ranked opponents and a run to the doubles main draw championship highlighted UC Davis' final day at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational.
Frederique Sleiffer and Kamila Kecki's main draw run concluded in the semifinal round of the White Flight. The two faced Sacramento State's Anna Nau/Tori Trylovich and fell 8-5.
Also taking place throughout Kecki's busy day at the Korth Tennis Complex were two singles matches. The sophomore advanced to the consolation quarterfinals by virtue of her 6-3, 6-2, straight-sets victory versus Danielle Zinn.
Competing in the same singles bracket were teammates Samantha Martino and Tiffany Pham; both captured opening-round consolation victories over Dane Joubert and Anna Nau respectively.
Martino collected her win in straight-set fashion by downing her counterpart from Cal Poly, 6-4 and 6-2.
After dropping the first set to No. 6 seed Nau, 3-6, Pham stormed back to win the second set, 6-3, before winning the third-set tiebreak by an 8-6 margin.
Pham continued her winning ways in the consolation quarterfinals by defeating Hannah Stone in an identical manner. After falling 2-6 in the opening set, the junior took the following two frames, 6-1, 1-0 (7-4) to secure a berth in the consolation semifinals.
Pham was not the only one to upset a ranked player in singles play as Leilani Tice also dropped No. 8 seed Riley Morgan in a Blue Flight singles matchup. Tice forced a tiebreak after winning the second set by a 6-4 result. Morgan won the previous set, 7-5.
After two evenly played frames, action throughout the tiebreaker was just as competitive as Tice was able to step up when it counted the most to capture the decisive set, 1-0, after winning the tiebreak by a 10-8 score.
Since the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational was the final event on the Aggies' off-season schedule, women's tennis will not return to action until its inaugural dual takes place on Jan. 16. UC Davis will open its spring slate that day, in Tempe, Arizona, against Northern Arizona before ending its weekend the following day with another dual at Arizona State.
