STANFORD, Calif. - Led by Paige Lee and Andrea Wong, two of three Aggies who recorded their best individual round of the weekend at the Stanford Invitational by posting a 2-under 69 and even score respectively, UC Davis finished its final fall event by capturing a 13th-place finish by shooting 881 throughout the three-day tournament.
Including the Aggies, seven top 20 teams and three individual medalists from last year's tournament, including the defending champion competed at the Stanford Golf Course.
USC and Intercollegiate host Stanford each recorded a collective score of 837 to share the team title. UCLA's Bronte Law shot 8-under to capture an individual championship, two strokes clear of runners-up Doris Chen (USC) and Louise Ridderstrom (UCLA).
Even though Lee started her day with a bogey, UC Davis was paired with Cal and Arizona State and started its morning on the 10th hole, the sophomore quickly rebounded by shooting par in the subsequent four holes.
She recorded her first birdie on 15 en route to an even score throughout her opening nine holes. Lee's consistent play continued throughout her back nine as she recorded seven straight pars before earning a birdie on two of her final three holes.
Lee shot a three-round 214 and was responsible for the Aggies' top individual score. She finished tied for 24th place.
Wong opened her morning with pars on eight of her first nine holes played. The only blemish of the day took place on 18, the ninth hole of her round. By recording a 1-under score throughout the following nine holes - she recorded a birdie on her second hole played following the turn - Wong inked in an even score of 71 for the day.
Betty Chen did not let a rough start slow her down; after falling to plus-2 after bogeying two of her first four holes, the junior won her battle against the Stanford Golf Course by shooting par on each of her final 14 holes.
Blair Lewis and Ally Zeng completed the Aggies' lineup; the former finished one shot behind Chen with a 3-over for the day, the latter finished one stroke behind Lewis at 4-over.
Back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15, and another consecutive pair on seven and eight helped Lewis match her first day score by posting a 74. Highlighted by birdies on 15 and 16, Zeng turned in a plus-4 (75) - her lowest round of the weekend.
The Aggies will now experience a lengthy hiatus since the team will not return to action until Feb. 14-15 when they return to Stanford for the Peg Barnard Invitational.
