STANFORD, Calif. - Jessie Lee earned a win in her consolation singles match, as did Samantha Martino during the second day of action from the Taube Family Tennis Center in Stanford, California, at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships. Lee and Martino were two of six UC Davis players who ended their time at the USTA/ITA's annual event in victorious fashion.
Lee defeated Eastern Washington's Rachel Swindell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, as did Martino who downed Sacramento State's Andie Mouzes, 6-2, 7-5.
Kristy Jorgensen and Layla Sanders breezed past Pacific's Christiana Ferrari and Iveta Masarova, 8-2; Lani-Rae Green and Tiffany Pham's clutch play in their match helped the pair record an 8-7 victory after winning their tiebreaker, 10-8.
In consolation singles action, Green and Jorgensen pushed Seattle's Michelle Lui and Santa Clara's Nabila Farah to the brink in their respective three-set matches. Even though UC Davis dropped both matches, a tiebreaker was needed in each match to determine a winner.
In the opening round of the Regional Championships on Friday, Kamila Kecki and Frederique Sleiffer won their doubles match to advance to Saturday's main draw Round of 32. The two battled valiantly, but fell 8-3 to Washington's Miki Kobayashi and Grace Sari Ysidora.
The USTA/ITA Northwest Regional was the second of three fall events on the Aggies' fall schedule. Women's tennis will now begin preparations for its final tournament, the Saint Mary's Invitional. This event will take place in Moraga, California, and run from October 24-26.
