FRESNO, Calif. - Kyle Miller rallied for a singles victory in a third-set tiebreaker but the UC Davis men's tennis team couldn't add any other wins in a 6-1 loss at No. 29 Fresno State on Saturday at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Aggies continued to struggle on the road, falling to 1-10 away from home while moving to a 3-13 overall record. The Bulldogs improved to 15-3 overall with a 10-1 mark at home.
Fresno State was able to sweep the doubles matches to earn the first point of the evening. Toki Sherbakov and Josh Albert had the best showing at the No. 1 position before falling to the team of Boutillier/Diame, 8-5.
The Bulldogs carried momentum over into singles play, where they posted the clinching victory at the No. 5 spot after three straight-set victories. Hugo Verdi-Fortin extended his No. 4 singles match into a third set before retiring in a 6-3, 2-6, 4-3 loss to Reid deLaubenfels. George Horowitz fell just short in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 6 positing, falling to Sai Kartik Nakireddi, 3-6, 6-3, (10-8).
Miller had the highlight of the night for UC Davis, battling for a three-set victory at the No. 2 spot. He trailed 6-3, 5-2 in the second set and saved a match point before surging to a 3-6, 7-6, (10-8) win against David Ayoun.
The Aggies will look to snap a nine-match losing streak next week, hosting UC Riverside on Saturday, Apr. 14 at 12 p.m.
