STANFORD, Calif. - UC Davis junior Jessica Dunn scored two goals in a 7-5 loss to Michigan in the seventh-place game of the Stanford Invitational women's water polo tournament at Avery Aquatic Center Sunday. She also was one of six scorers in an 8-6 setback to USC earlier in the day.
The Aggies, ranked 14th nationally, slip to 2-8 overall. They have played eight games against opponents ranked among the top nationally. The Women of Troy ranked third in Wednesday's poll, while the Wolverines were 12th.
UC Davis stayed competitive during the first half with USC, trailing just 6-4 at the break. Dunn, senior Alicia Began, sophomore Hannah Curran, senior Carey Faber, freshman Allyson Hansen and freshman Keelia Houston each had one goal in the morning contest. Senior goalkeeper Rachel Tatusko posted seven saves in the cage.
In the seventh-place contest, Michigan shut UC Davis out in the third quarter after locking up in a 4-4 halftime tie. Besides Dunn's two goals, junior Carmen Eggert and seniors Ariel Feeney and Dakotah Mohr netted one each. Junior goalkeeper Riane Woods tallied five saves.
The Aggies take a weekend off from competition, returning to official action on February 19 at Sonoma State. They also host an Alumnae game on Saturday, February 18.
