BEAVERTON, Ore. - The UC Davis men's tennis team was undefeated in doubles and singles action en route to a 9-0 win at George Fox on Saturday night at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Aggies improved to .500 with a 2-2 record on the season while the Bruins, a NCAA Division III member, dropped their season opener. All three doubles matches were awarded points, following NCAA Division III rules.
In the opening doubles round, the Aggies' Hugo Verdi-Fortin and Kyle Miller doubled up the Bruins' Shawn Aldrich and David Munoz 8-4 at No. 1, Alec Haley and Josh Albert topped Peter Brown and Justin McClain 8-2 at No. 2, and Toki Sherbakov and Chris Aria conquered Preston Mann and Drew Milton 8-3.
In singles, it was Sherbakov over Mann 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1; Miller over Aldrich 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2; Aria over McClain 6-2, 6-4 over No. 3; Albert over Milton 0-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 4; Horowitz over Brown 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5; and Haley over Andy Tweet 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
The match was played at Tualatin Hills rather than the George Fox campus courts in order to assure a dry venue in case of rain.
UC Davis will continue its play in Oregon tomorrow, facing the University of Portland at 11 a.m.
