ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Seniors Dakotah Mohr, Carey Faber and Ariel Feeney each scored two goals to lead 13th-ranked UC Davis to an 8-6 win over Sonoma State in collegiate women's water polo action at Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies improve to 3-9, picking up their first win since beating San Jose State on January 22. The contest is also the first against an unranked team since that victory.
The two teams battled closely early in the game. Faber's second goal came on a 6-on-5 chance in the final minute of the first quarter, putting UC Davis up by a 3-2 margin. But Seawolf sophomore Bridgette Souza hit her third of five goals on the day at 5:07 in the second to tie the contest for a third time.
The Aggies responded with four straight goals, including one from Feeney on the ensuing possession. Mohr delivered another 6-on-5 goal with 1:32 to go, giving her team a 6-3 halftime edge. Feeney struck again soon after the break to send the lead to its peak of four.
Souza and freshman Caitlin Risden each scored midway in the fourth quarter to close the gap but neither team could find the back fo the net for the final four minutes of play.
Juniors Katie Schlueter and Carmen Eggert also had one goal each for UC Davis.
The Aggies return to action for their home opener against Cal Baptist on Friday.
