MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Kayleigh Foley added an individual championship in the 100 yard freestyle and had a share of the 400 yard freestyle relay title to help the UC Davis women's swimming and diving team finish third at the MPSF Championship meet conclusion on Saturday at East Los Angeles College.
Foley continued to dominate the freestyle events at the conference meet, capturing her third individual championship of the weekend while managing a new school record and MPSF meet record time of 49.36 in the 100 yard free. Her time also served as a NCAA "B" Standard time. Katie Edwards turned in a third place finish in the 100 yard free with a season best time of 50.53.
The Aggies' final point total as a team came out to 546, good enough for a third place finish behind the MPSF champion BYU (732) and runner-up UC Santa Barbara (699). Cal Poly ended in fourth place with 539.5 points, followed by San Diego (299.5), Pacific (250), Cal State Bakersfield (211), Loyola Marymount (179), Northern Colorado (179) and Seattle (136).
The Aggies earned another event championship in the 400 yard freestyle relay, thanks to the team of Foley, Edwards, Jenah Dawson and Hilary Hunt. Their time of 3:22.09 was a season best time by over four seconds and qualified as a NCAA "B" Standard.
Caralynn Silvas recorded a school record in the 1650 yard freestyle, finishing in fifth place in the event with a time of 16:55.96. Grace Benefield (17:12.90), Bridget Bugbee (17:20.29) and Samantha Rados (17:22.00) all added season best times while finishing 10th, 12th and 13th, respectively.
Hunt led the Aggies in the 200 yard backstroke with a fourth place finish, tallying a season best time of 2:00.92.
Liliana Alvarez had another top time in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing fourth with a NCAA "B" Standard time of 2:14.19. Morgan Lee managed a season best time of 2:17.56 to lead the finishers of the consolation final heat.
Megan Leung paced UC Davis in the 200 yard butterfly with a season best time of 2:01.79 and a fourth place finish, followed by Karley Troup in seventh place with a 2:03.69 time.
In the diving competition's final day, Lauren Jesse had the top finish of any Aggie, placing fourth in platform diving with a score of 186.75. Alexandra Richardson (127.15) and Jennifer Meyer (117.85) turned in 11th and 12th place finishes, respectively.
Throughout the four-day conference meet, the Aggies accounted for five event championships, nine NCAA "B" Standard times and three school records, among several season and lifetime bests.
