MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team posted two NCAA "B" Standard times Wednesday on the first day of competition at the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at East Los Angeles College.
The Aggies are in second place with 68 points after a pair of relays on day one. UC Santa Barbara currently sits in first place with 80 points, while BYU (64) is in third followed by San Diego (56), Northern Colorado (50), Loyola Marymount (48), Cal State Bakersfield (42), Seattle (40), Cal Poly (30) and Pacific (30).
Kayleigh Foley, Karley Troup, Bridget Bugbee and Katherine Edwards finished in second in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:18.05, which stands as an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard.
The Aggies still hold the MPSF meet record in the 800 yard freestyle relay, set last season with a time of 7:15.42
Hilary Hunt, Liliana Alvarez, Megan Leung and Foley placed second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.25, while again adding an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard. UC Davis also managed a season best time and the Aggies were just .18 seconds short of a school record.
Action will continue on Thursday with the 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard IM, 50 yard free and the 400 yard medley relay. The diving competition will also get underway at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, beginning with the 3-meter diving.
