DAVIS, Calif. - Aggie distance standouts Samantha Shellem and Marissa Brown picked up event wins in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle, respectively, but San Jose State claimed all over individual events plus both relays to take a 208-92 victory over host UC Davis in a women's collegiate swimming and diving dual meet at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday.

The Aggies open their dual season at 0-1.

The freshman Brown posted a winning time of 10 minutes, 17.08 seconds to claim a seven-second win in the 1,000 in the first individual event of the day. Shellem, a junior from La Verne, went 5:00.29 in the second distance free event, roughly a full second ahead of Brown's 5:01.25. The two swimmers accounted for 23 of UC Davis' point total for the day.

Sophomore Hilary Hunt added a pair of second-place finishes in the two backstroke events, going 57.43 in the 100-yard edition followed by a 2:08.45 in the 200. Junior Liliana Alvarez matched those finishes in the breaststroke races, posting times of 1:03.86 in the 100 and 2:19.16 in the 200. Her 100 time was a mere 13-hundredths behind Spartan Darcie Anderson.

San Jose State set a couple of pool records during its meet win. The 200 medley relay foursome of Michaela McLean, Anderson, Ashlyn Acosta and Marisa DeWames went 1:43.62, eclipsing UC Santa Barbara's old mark by just .07 of a second. Individually, DeWames crushed the old record in the 100 freestyle, hitting a 50.62 -- three-quarters of a second faster than the old standard of 51.37.

Saturday's meet marked the season debut for the Aggie divers. Freshman Hanna Tears led UC Davis on both boards, scoring 258.75 on 1-meter and 257.10 on 3-meter to place third in each event.

The Aggies hit the road for back-to-back double duals at UCLA and Loyola Marymount on Nov. 2 and 3, respectively.
