DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team opened up the home portion of its schedule with a 5-2 win over Sonoma State on Friday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
The Aggies battled through windy conditions to post their first win of the season, improving to 1-1 overall while the Seawolves dropped to 0-1.
UC Davis managed a sweep in the doubles matches, including an 8-6 win for Kyle Miller and Hugo Verdi-Fortin over Daniel Henke and Matt Roberts. Josh Albert and Alec Haley also posted an 8-6 victory in the No. 2 position, downing the team of Seth Hein and David Hutton.
The doubles matches were rounded out with a win for Toki Sherbakov and Chris Aria, who defeated Greg Eckstedt and Nelson Hosley, 8-5.
Sherbakov paced the Aggies in singles action, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Roberts in the No. 1 spot. UC Davis continued its strong singles play in the top three positions after wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Miller downed Hutton, 6-4, 6-2, while Aria added a victory over Henke, 6-4. 6-2. The remaining singles win for the Aggies came when George Horowitz took a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Garret Gooch.
UC Davis will start its Big West schedule tomorrow, traveling to face Pacific at 1 p.m.
