SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Kyle Miller and Hugo Verdi-Fortin posted a win in No. 1 doubles but the UC Davis men's tennis team dropped its first dual match of the season 7-0 against Santa Clara on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center.
Miller and Verdi Fortin managed an 8-4 victory over the team of Maxime Armengaud and Nicolas Vinel in the No. 1 position. The Broncos bounced back in doubles play with wins in the No. 2 and 3 spots to earn the double point.
Santa Clara took control in singles play, taking all six matches in straight sets. Toki Sherbakov played tough as the No. 1 singles player but fell to Kyle Dandan, 6-3, 6-3. Chris Aria nearly took a win in the opening set at the No. 3 position despite a loss to Vinel, 7-6, 6-0.
UC Davis will be back in action tomorrow morning, facing No. 19 California in a 10 a.m. match.
