FRESNO, Calif. - UC Davis started its fall schedule Friday at the Bulldog Classic, hosted by Fresno State. The Aggies had wins from Toki Sherbakov, Hugo Verdi-Fortin and Josh Albert in single competition in addition to four wins in doubles play.
Sherbakov took a win over San Francisco's Jacob Hartwig, 6-2, 6-1, in men's open singles round of 32 before falling in the round of 16 to Alex Rovello of Oregon, 6-0, 6-3. Kyle Miller and Chris Aria each posted wins in the flight B singles round of 32. Albert also had a win over Jordan Rozenfeld of Nevada in flight C singles, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, the Aggies posted three wins in flight B doubles. Teams of Albert/Rozenfeld, Aria/Haley and Miller/Verdi-Fortin each had wins. In the quarterfinal round Miller and Verdi-Fortin downed Fresno State's pair of deLaubenfeis/Quiroz, 8-6.
Verdi-Fortin and Miller will compete in the semifinal round of flight B doubles tomorrow, while Verdi-Fortin will also continue with singles competition.
