BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomores Jessica Dunn and Carmen Eggert each totaled four goals as 16th-ranked UC Davis split a women's water polo doubleheader at Spieker Aquatic Center Sunday. The Aggies stormed to a 17-8 win over George Washington in early-morning action then fell to No. 2 California by a 15-7 final.
UC Davis moves to 13-6 for the season, ending a 10-game win streak.
Eggert scored three goals in the morning victory over the Colonials, all in a 9-2 first half. Dunn, Alicia Began, Michelle Hook and Heidi Kucera added two goals in that contest. Kucera scored both of her goals early in the second period to extend the UC Davis lead to 6-2. Hook hit two in the third to extend the Aggie edge to 12-3. Began netted two goals in the second half, first by converting a Kucera assist at two meters then secondly on a five-meter penalty shot.
GW standout Allison Peotter scored all but one of her team's seven goals.
Dunn and junior Kaylee Miller each scored two goals in the afternoon contest against the host Golden Bears. UC Davis fell behind by an 8-1 deficit at the break but managed to pile up six goals in the second half. Eggert, Rachelle Smith and Dakotah Mohr accounted for the remaining Aggie goals.
UC Davis returns to action in the lower Central Valley, taking on Fresno Pacific on Friday then competing at the Roadrunner Invitational at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.
