DAVIS, Calif. - Senior Michelle Hook, junior Lyndsay Sutterley, sophomore Carmen Eggert and freshman Katie Jackson each totaled three goals to lead 15th-ranked UC Davis to wins over Harvard and Fresno Pacific during a collegiate women's water polo tripleheader at Schaal Aquatics Center Monday. The Aggies defeated the Crimson by a 13-5 final then captured a 13-2 victory over the Sunbirds, extending their winning streak to nine straight.
Harvard also posted an 11-9 win over Fresno Pacific in neutral-site action earlier in the day.
Hook, Eggert and sophomore Jessica Dunn each scored two goals in the early-afternoon win over Harvard. Jackson, Sutterley and junior Alicia Began all netted two goals against Fresno Pacific. In all, 15 different Aggies scored goals in one of the two games.
Hook hit both of her goals against the Crimson during the first quarter, helping UC Davis craft a 6-1 lead through the first nine minutes of play. Senior Heidi Kucera contributed heavily on defense in that game, forcing two steals and blocking back-to-back shots in just 11 minutes of tank time. Eggert's goal with 1:15 in the second was perhaps the most spectacular of the day. After earning inside water at two meters, she elevated high out of the water to redirect an Ariel Feeney pass into the cage in a water polo version of basketball's "alley-oop" play.
The Aggies scored seven unanswered goals against FPU, not even allowing a Sunbird shot until Brittney Guerrero fired late in the first quarter. Eggert scored on a 6-on-5 chace to open the game then assisted Hook at the 5:36 mark to kickstart the scoring run. Began landed both of her goals in the second period to extend UC Davis' advantage to 8-1 at the half.
Jackson scored off the initial sprint of the fourth quarter then finished a counterattack with 3:28 remaining in the game for her third and fourth goals of the season.
UC Davis takes a break for the university's final examinations then returns to action at California on Sunday. The Aggies face the host Golden Bears as well as George Washington in neutral-site action.
