LONG BEACH, Calif. - Heidi Kucera set a UC Davis record in the 400 individual medley, besting the previous mark by nearly eight seconds, and the Aggie women's swimming team won four individual events on the third day of action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
UC Davis maintains a significant lead over the rest of the competition in the inaugural conference championship meet. The Aggies are in first place with 532 points while UC Santa Barbara is second with 443 points. Cal Poly is third with 401 points and are followed by San Diego (309), Loyola Marymount (212) and Northern Colorado (202) in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Pacific (164), Cal State Bakersfield (142) and Seattle (141) rounds out the final three placings.
Kucera's winning 400 IM time of 4:14.70 topped her own UC Davis record of 4:22.18 set in 2007 and was an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time.
Linda Hermann won the 200 freestyle in an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time of 1:48.19 while freshman Liliana Alvarez hit her seventh "B" time of the year in the 100 breaststroke. Alvarez won the event in a time of 1:00.47.
Ashley Chandler won the 100 back stroke in a time of 54.63, also an NCAA "B" Consideration time.
Kayleigh Foley set a "B" time in the 100 butterfly, finishing second in a time of 54.39 while Bridget Bugbee was third overall in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.55.
Freshman Megan Leung finished in the top eight of the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.04.
Jennifer Meyer represented UC Davis in 3-meter diving and finished seventh with a final score of 219.10.
The competition concludes Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 1650 freestyle as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
