LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team broke two school records and set two NCAA "B" Consideration Standard times Wednesday on the first day of competition at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
The Aggies are in first place with 74 points, holding a slim lead over UC Santa Barbara who is second with 72 points. Cal Poly is third with 64 points and is followed by San Diego (62), Pacific (54) and Loyola Marymount (54). Northern Colorado (46), Cal State Bakersfield (46) and Seattle (36) round out the standings.
Kayleigh Foley, Heidi Kucera, Bridget Bugbee and Linda Hermann won the 800 freestyle relay in a UC Davis record of 7:15.42, which also stands as an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard. The Aggies won the event by almost six full seconds, as Cal Poly finished in second in a time of 7:21.24.
The record-setting time tops the previous UC Davis school record by two seconds.
In the 200 medley relay, Ashley Chandler, Kucera, Foley and Hermann combined to clock in at 1:41.07 to set a UC Davis record and achieve an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time to finish second in the event.
The mark bested the previous school record of 1:41.33 set last season by Chandler, Morgan Lee, Foley and Jen Cadmus.
UC Santa Barbara won the event with a time of 1:40.08.
Action continues Thursday with the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and 400 medley relay as well as 1-meter diving.
