TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - UC Davis senior Jonathan Peterson concluded his final season as an Aggie at Monday's NCAA Div. I Cross Country Championships, clocking in at 30:34.5 at the national championship meet hosted by Indiana State at LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

The trip was Peterson's second in a row and he finished 71st overall in the men's 10K race.

"Jon has ended his season at the national meet two years in a row, an achievement that means a lot in terms of getting the UC Davis name out there," said head coach Drew Wartenburg. "The challenge now is to move the next individuals, and a team, to that level."

"Coming into this fall, and particularly the postseason, we knew that the task of measuring up to last year would be difficult," continued Wartenburg. "There's no room for error at the top and battling some health issues this weekend made it hard to put all the necessary pieces together for a repeat of 2010. Nonetheless, it's always better to end a season and cross country career at nationals instead of watching from home."

The Clovis, Calif. native advanced to the NCAA Championship after turning in a strong performance at the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 12. His tenth-place finish earned him an at-large bid to the national championship.

Arizona freshman Lawl Lalang won the national championship in a time of 28:44.1.

Peterson led the Aggie men's team in virtually every meet throughout the 2011 season, finishing third overall at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 24 and 11th at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 16. He turned in a fifth-place finish at the Big West Championships on Oct. 29 before recording his tenth-place finish at the West Regionals two weeks later, earning All-West Region accolades in the process.
