SAN JOSE, Calif. - The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team dropped its first meet of the season, falling 178-122 to San Jose State on Saturday at the Aquatics Center.
The Aggies dropped to 3-1 with the loss while the Spartans improved to 3-1 on the young season.
Kayleigh Foley continued to separate herself, leading UC Davis with individual wins in all three of her freestyle races. Foley's first-place finishes included the 50 (23.35), 100 (50.74), and 200 (1:50.45) freestyle events, all of which were season bests.
The Aggies also had first-place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle (Grace Benefield, 10:21.48), 500 yard freestyle (Sarah Winters, 5:03.38) and 100 yard butterfly (Sara Ramos, 59.34).
UC Davis managed to take the 1, 3 and 4 spots in the 1000 yard freestyle, while also dominating the 200 yard freestyle with finishes in the 1, 3, 4 and 5 spots.
San Jose State started to create some separation after the third event, when they took first-place finishes in five of the next six races. The Spartans also took the top three spots in the one-meter diving competition and finished 1-2 in the three-meter event.
Heather Denman posted wins in four events for San Jose State, including both back backstroke events (100, 200), the 100 butterfly and the opening leg of the 200 medley relay.
The Aggies will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to San Diego for a double dual match with San Diego and Colorado State on Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m.
