SAN JOSE, Calif. - Senior Dakotah Mohr scored a total of seven goals in two games while junior Ariel Feeney added five more as No. 16 UC Davis split its first day of action at the Spartan Invitational women's water polo tournament at the SJSU Aquatics Center Saturday.
The Aggies, now 2-1 for the year, lost to the host Spartans by a 13-9 final then defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 20-7.
Feeney and Mohr each scored hat tricks in Saturday's opener against San Jose State. The Aggies trailed 9-5 at the halftime break then played an even 4-4 battle in the second half. Hannah Curran, Carmen Eggert and Carey Faber also scored a goal for UC Davis. Freshman and Budapest, Hungary native Timi Molnar tallied five goals for SJSU.
In the Aggies' nightcap, 11 different players netted at least one goal for UC Davis. Mohr led the way with four scores with center Lauren Seidemann chipping in three. Two sets of Aggie sisters - Rachelle and Becca Smith, Katie and Erin Schlueter - each contributed three goals.
Saturday's victory over the Otters marks the 13th time in school history UC Davis has amassed 20 or more goals in a game. The last such occurrence was almost a full year ago, in a 20-7 win at Sonoma State
The Aggies conclude play in the Spartan Invite on Sunday, taking on California at 1 p.m. and Santa Clara at 4 p.m.
