SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team won the 200 medley relay and seven individual events, but Cal Poly claimed the 400 freestyle relay to edge the Aggies and take a 157-143 victory Friday at Anderson Aquatics Center in San Luis Obispo.
The Aggies fall to 9-3 and drop their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation dual meet decision of the season to drop to 4-1. Cal Poly, who also routed Pacific by a score of 240-54 are now 2-1 in dual meet competition on the year.
Liliana Alvarez set her third NCAA "B" Consideration time of the season in the 100 breaststroke after clocking in at 1:02.93 to win the event. She also won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:20.15.
UC Davis was led by Linda Hermann who won three individual events on the day. The senior started with a victory in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.29, then claimed the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:03.70. Her final win came in the 200 individual medley as she clocked in at 2:05.43 to outlast Cal Poly's Amanda Maffris.
Ashley Chandler, Alvarez, Megan Leung and Kayleigh Foley combined to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:46.18 to win the first event of the day.
Cal Poly would claim points back after Lacey Buck claimed the 1000 freestyle by nearly 10 seconds in a time of 10:17.85. UC Davis' Sarah Winters finished second in a season-best time of 10:27.82 while Grace Benefield was third (10:29.97).
After Hermann's 200 free win, Chandler was the sole Aggie to claim a top-five finish in the 100 backstroke as she turned in a winning time of 57.12, a season-best for the senior. Alvarez and Morgan Lee would go one-two in the 100 breast, but Cal Poly would claim the top two spots in the 200 butterfly.
Amy Morales took the 50 freestyle for the Mustangs after she outtouched Kayleigh Foley for the win. Foley clocked in at 24.34 to finish second.
Jennifer Meyer and Erica Stricker finished second and third, respectively, in one-meter diving to keep the Aggies within striking distance. Meyer's score was 223.80 while Stricker earned a total score of 223.65.
The Aggies would win the next three straight events with Foley picking up her only win of the day in the 100 freestyle, recording a time of 51.76. Cal Poly, however, won the 500 freestyle and the 100 butterfly and claimed first and second in three-meter diving.
Hermann's 200 IM win set the scene for the final event, the 400 freestyle relay. Cal Poly, however, reached the wall first in a time of 3:30.52 to UC Davis' time of 3:32.50.
UC Davis competes in the final dual meet of the 2010-11 season at UC Santa Barbara Saturday at 11 a.m.
