UC Davis Falls In Big West Tournament

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by UC Santa Barbara, 4-1, Friday morning in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The No. 2 Gauchos opened the match by winning the doubles point and went on to claim three more wins in singles. UC Davis (9-11) entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed.

Doubles began with a UCSB victory at No. 3. Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga defeated Lauren Curry and Noelle Eades, 8-0. Next off were Tova Hausman and Bryanna Ojeda at No. 1 as they claimed an 8-3 victory over Herzyl Legaspi and Desiree Stone. That clinched the 1-0 lead for UC Santa Barbara (13-10) heading to singles.

UC Davis evened the score when Dahra Zamudio won at No. 2. The Aggie sophomore defeated Natalia Lozano, 6-3, 6-1. It capped off a strong finish to the season for Zamudio, who won 10 of her final 11 matches.

The next three matches went to the Gauchos in straight sets. Damion defeated Curry at No. 4, and Ojeda did the same at No. 6 against Sidney Brady. The clinching win came at No. 3 where Hausman defeated Legaspi to make it 4-1. Matches at No. 1 and No. 5 did not finish.
