STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific defeated UC Davis, 6-1, in a Big West Conference women's tennis match Saturday at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. The Tigers swept through doubles before winning five out of six in singles. Ellie Edles picked up the lone win for UC Davis (9-9, 2-5 Big West) and is 8-1 since March 7.
Pacific (7-11, 3-4 Big West) began doubles with a win at No. 3 where Olga Gumenyuk and Christina Goehl defeated Lauren Curry and Noelle Eades, 8-1. The Tigers went on to win at No. 1 to clinch the first point before taking the match at No. 2 as well.
Five of the six singles matches finished in straight sets. Widjaja, ranked No. 91 nationally, defeated Desiree Stone at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1. Julia Hansen posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Herzyl Legaspi at No. 3. Gumenyuk and Sasha Fisher also won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
Edles defeated Sarah Irvin, 6-2, 7-6 (6), at No. 5. The Aggie freshman had her seven-match winning streak snapped last Tuesday against Cal State Northridge but began a new one on Saturday. It was her 10th win this spring, which is second on the team.
UC Davis is scheduled to play at Santa Clara on Sunday.
